That is probably exactly why they have you use "strange" ports.
Have you tried using your son's machine to get your gmail? If it works,
then the problem is in the configuration of his gmail account. If it
doesn't work, the problem is someplace between Outlook, his machine, and
his
ISP.
The strange thing is that I can NOT telnet into smtp.gmail.com over port
995
or 465. But I was ok going over port 25. Perhaps just for grins and
giggles, you should try using the standard port.
