AVG from grisoft.com has a very compact set (point products that come
together in their Control Center) for AV, AntiSpy, AntiSpam, and
Firewall. I find their Network Edition simpler to use than Symantec's
Corporate Edition. I used the full Norton suite until a few years ago
when I started seeing more and more systems that couldn't be straitened
out until I uninstalled *and used the RNAV####* tools to really wipe it
out. So far I have not had any of the install, config or strange "things
not working" problems with AVG that I had with Norton. And the bonus is
that AVG costs about the same but you get two years coverage. Second
bonus (for some people) is that it doesn't use Activation. lIt doesn't
have the "Parental Controls" but... how effective/many...

For Chuck, I would bet that your sending problem is the ISP blocking.
Another, common thing to try is port 587. So far I haven't been up
against an ISP that blocks SMTP that also blocks port 587. Port 587 is
supposed to be the "authenticated" version of SMTP which means you
should have to prove you are someone the server "knows" and thus be
unusable to spammers. I checked and gmail does support port 587.

Alarm's suite is getting top honors right now. I personally use
CounterSpy (http://sunbelt-software.com) for anti-spyware (AS) & AVG
(http://free.grisoft.com) for AV.

I just built a new PC, OK insanely overpowered workstation*, at home.
Once I'm done setting it up, transferring files, etc. I plan on
reviewing my choices & may move to the Zone suite. I'd prefer an
integrated suite v. point solutions for AV, AS, anti-spam, and firewall.
