I'd suggest an AGP card with dual outputs and disable the onboard video.
By doing this you should be successful in side-stepping any driver
issues.
Something like

nice as it's passively cooled - no extra fan noise. If you don't mind a
small amount of extra fan noise, this is similar enough in price but a
faster card:

BTW some people preach nVidia graphics over ATI or vice versa. For a
basic system it really isn't going to matter. Spend more on a quality
flat panel and use DVI wherever possible.
