The Netgear units are fine for VPNing to your office. While the 614 is
old, it may be like the Linksys WRT54 series - several hardware
generations with no change in model number.
I've had the 624, 634, and the WNR654 (pre-N) models. All have worked
fine but their operating like seems to not exceed 18 or so months. In
the end while I like the Netgear products I've given up on them as they
don't meet my reliability requirements.
At the moment I'm on a Linksys WRT54Gsomething that I had lying around
(given to me by a friend before he moved) when my WNR failed. If it
fails I'm not sure what I'll move to. Probably a small commercial grade
unit like the SnapGear SG565 (
http://www.securecomputing.com/index.cfm?skey=1558 ). It costs a few
hundred $ but does quite a bit more than the consumer stuff.
