Well, based on what you're saying having the company provide the second
monitor is plenty fair. Everyone gets what they want or what they feel
will make them the most productive. Dual monitors for you, single for
the others.

I use dual monitors (laptop LCD + external CRT) all the time and have
for years. Heck, in addition to that I've a second laptop that I can
pop onto if I need a 3rd screen for some reason. The company provides
all necessary hardware (the second laptop is an old/slow thing that's no
longer supported but still works). I'm not aware of anyone in the
office who has asked for a similar setup and been denied. Most people
who get an LCD with their laptop use it instead of instead of in
addition to the laptop's native display.

The idea here is to get people the tools to do their job. Spending
$300-500 one-time for hardware with a multi-year life is trivial if it
gets even a minor increase in productivity.
