I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 881U 3G broadband adapter (AT&T is the
service provider) that I use in my laptop for internet access while I'm
traveling.
After a frustrating weekend of trying to use Internet Connection Sharing to
share this mobile broadband connection with my nephew at the lake, I have
been researching the ability to more easily share this broadband connection
(in the car and elsewhere) with my family members while traveling with our
laptops. I have found the perfect solution (a 3G Router from Cradlepoint),
and I thought I'd share this information with the group.

They have several different models, which can be tethered to either a mobile
phone OR a dedicated 3G device:
The PHS300 is battery-powered so it can be used out in the field with no
external power source.
The CTR350 has one RJ45 port which can be used as a WAN or LAN port - it has
only a USB port for a tethered 3G or mobile phone device.
The brand new CTR500 is similar to the CTR-350, but it also has an express
card slot for a 3G device, in addition to the USB port, and you can add an
external Wifi antenna to this one.
The MBR1000 has all of the above features (except it does NOT have a
battery), except it has built-in Wifi antennas and 4 RJ45 ports.
12-volt Power adapters are available for all of these devices.
