Actually, no, the text may be different ... but the rpg expression %len(%trim(dbcsfield)) will always return the correct number of bytes. Double byte characters are always (plus a shift-out & shift-in character). The expression is completely deterministic.

Does this comparison not return a different outcome depending upon the language installed?
