I'm not an expert but I believe that it's just DC voltages. My experience
has only been using POE to power a wireless access point. It worked well
but I wouldn't expect much more. Even if you could push 120VAC across an
ethernet cable I wouldn't trust it. Interference and fire safety come to
mind.

In my house I did home-runs from my basement, through the garage, into a
crawl space, up into the 2nd floor attic, and into the bedroom walls. My
knees may never be the same from all of the crawling around. Still, as
long as you are pulling one cable why not pull more than one. While
you're at it, you might want to consider pulling phone and cable TV wires.
I also left strings in the walls so in case I ever wanted to do more I
could tie on to the string and pull it through without fishing for it.
