Some years back we went from our Verizon landline at over $40/mo to
Vonage at $19/mo. Over time, Vonage started going up. When it got to
$25/mo I started looking at Magic Jack. My wife asked, "Do we really
need a house phone?".

We got rid of the landline altogether and have no regrets.

ooma seems expensive up front but would easily recover the cost of an at&t

Don't make the mistake of calculating payback based upon the advertised
monthly charge for a land line, you must also consider the taxes and
fees that will be applied as well.  We had AT&T and rarely used our land
line. After taxes and fees, it was $40 a month, so after 4 months of
Ooma it was paid for.

We got in with a tax free unit, so we haven't paid anything for phone
service for a year now.  I am considering going to the Premier service,
it has quite a number of nice features.
