I have been having the same exact issues on my Verizon Note 3. Holding out for the Note 5.

Subject: [PCTECH] Verizon Android 5.0.1
I recently upgraded my Verizon Android to 5.0.1 and now my reception has plummeted. Not only that, it seems that after I drop to zero bars I have to reboot my phone for it to reconnect.
I talked to our PC tech (who talked me into the upgrade) and he said he started noticing the same thing also.
Get's so bad I can't even text in many places I used to be able to.
Apparently there's a newer version out for Android but Verizon seems to take the attitude of not releasing a new version until the next version after that is announced.
Probably an attitude of "who wants to be on the leading edge?". But this is turning into the problem of inheriting all the problems discovered in the old release that may have been fixed in the newest release.
If they claim it's because of extensive quality testing, it just isn't working...
Most recent was a few voice mails from the doctor's office about my kid.
Grr...
