Thanks John. The problem is remembering what I've customized and how to do
it (again).

IT support suggested that we backup the \Appdata folder from my profile
folder so that we can restore piece by piece after recreating my profile to
see which (if any) of these settings is affecting the clock. But really,
none of the software I use is "rare" and none of it is beta. It just seems
that we're barking up the wrong tree.

That's what it sounds like to me too. Like you, I would have thought
factory replacement under warranty would be the most straightforward
option.

I asked IT support if they could give me a new unit
and swap in my hard drive to see if that resolves the issue. But they
want
to delete my Windows profile then recreate it, which means that I'll have
to set everything back to the way it was. I am trying to avoid this.

What do you have to set back the way it was? What are the most painful
parts of that? And, if that's bearable (and better than putting up
with wonky Outlook reminders), the fact that your support people at
least seem willing to go this route means it might be your best
option.
