Thought I'd update this thread with the latest info.
Per John's suggestion, I ran Dell's boot-time diagnostics (extended test),
but I could not find any results for the RTC battery.
This morning, IT support removed the laptop from the domain, rebooted, and
rejoined it to the domain. I have no idea how this would have affected the
clock or fixed the issue with it.
After I logged on, all seemed to be working well, and I was about ready to
call it a success. After about two hours, I started up Firefox, restoring
my previous session of 3 windows and 134 tabs. (Don't judge me!) Boom!
The clock *immediately* started to lose ~11 seconds every two minutes,
according to the history in my “ping the time server every two minutes”
task in the task scheduler. I closed Firefox and waited for the process to
disappear in Windows Task Manager. The first time server ping added a few
seconds to the clock, but after that first one, my clock hasn't missed a
tick.
I waited about 10 minutes to verify that the clock stayed accurate, then
started up Firefox again, this time WITHOUT starting the previous session
of 3 windows and 134 tabs. (Don't judge me!) With just one or two tabs
open, the clock stayed accurate. 30 minutes later, I restored the previous
session of 3 windows and 134 tabs. (Don't judge me!) Again, BOOM! The
clock is losing ~11 seconds every two minutes.
I'll continue testing, but it appears to be obvious that I've found the
culprit. (Don't judge me!) What is curious to me is that I've never
experienced this problem on any other PC I've had. And, yes, I abuse
Firefox with 134 tabs. I know I need help. I'm going to pare that number
down tonight. #WhatAreBookmarks
