Mohammad, First, I would like to suggest that you not cross-post these questions to both lists. Please pick one (since most of your questions have been of an RPG nature, I would recommend keeping to the RPG400-L list). As has been mentioned in other posts, "yourfile" and "yourlib" are designators that allow you to specify any name and library you wish. Unfortunately, I don't think you do "get this". Using your assignment, let's go over what is happening. Files are containers of information of many types, programs are actions to perform. Your assignment is to run a command which will create a file which contains certain information about objects in the specified library(s). The program which you are creating will then read this file and display the information contained in this file. One suggestion was to create a dummy file so that your progam will compile, that is one way -- but there is a better way. If you have access to the "AS/400 Programming Reference Summary", there is a chapter that lists the file formats that are used by all of the commands. Under DSPOBJD you will find it uses a file based upon the QADSPOBJ definition. So, you can base all of your file specifications upon this file. The key point is that you will want to actually work with a copy of this file, this is usually done through CRTDUPOBJ.
