Multiple Procedure during file read

Hi,

I am encountering a strange problem while running a program
with multiple modules.

The problem is as follows:

1. The file(F1) is made USROPN since the ODP is SHARE(*NO) so
    I override it to SHARE(*YES) in a CL before opening the file.

2.I am executing the READ operation on the file in module 'M1' and calling a
procedure 'P1'
   from a different module 'M2' which reads the file fields and
   populates a DS after making conversions such as charToNum etc.
   This procedure then returns the DS to the caller.

3. The scenarios taking place are as follows:
    When I 'READ' the file, it does not indicate EOF but the field values
picked are blanks or 000.00

4. If I move the procedures in the separate module(M2) to the caller
module(M1) and do not bind the module M2
    while CRTPGM the program runs fine.

I am not sure why this is happening.
        Also the Activation Group is the *DFTACTGRP.

Request your help/suggestion on this.
