Barbara, names of the lookahead fields would have to be different. At least for > RPG III, this would mean that the lookahead fields would have had to be > program-described, and they probably thought that would be a bad idea. But there could be reasonable alternatives, like the syntax for renaming fields in externally described files. IE, place the name of the desired look-ahead field to the left, and the name of the field for the contents from the next record in the normal field name columns. Granted, look-ahead fields aren't useful in very many scenarios so it isn't a great loss. Just one of those quirks you can run into while trying to convert RPG II code. Doug
