Different set of files, or the same set of files from different libraries?

If the same set of files from different libraries then you should be able to
use static SQL instead of
dynamic assuming that you are not using qualified names.

Charles

The SQL statement will be Dynamic as I may be using a
different set of files each time I execute the command.

Parameter markers are used with dynamic SQL.

Host fields for static.

Static performs better than dynamic.

If you can use static. Then I recommend you do so.

Subject: SQL Question

I have 2 files with a 1 to N relationship where I need to select a
common field from the 2nd file.
Since there is a 1 to N, I can not use SELECT INTO, but must use
SELECT with either DISTINCT or GROUP BY.
The selection criteria will vary every time I need to select this
data.
Is it better to use the host fields in the SELECT statement WHERE
clause, or to use Parameter Markers and put the host fields in the
OPEN statement?

Thanks,
