I would also suggest a web service if you are going to build other functions that would be invoked in a similar fashion. If this is a one off function, however, it might be overkill.

Another possibility would be to use a remote data queue to get the response back. Considering the SBMRMTCMD already wants DDM setup, it might be easier.
