Already done that Niels - it is the main one I use.

I haven't had time to revisit the problem (the need disappeared) but  
the only thing I did establish is that it is volume related.

The more records in the subfile, the longer it takes before the  
problem surfaces. With a load of 500 records it occurs on the first  
attempt to sort the file from the first page. With 1,000 records it  
does three sorts before screwing up. With 1,500 about five sorts.  
Beyond that I didn't count.
