This is the problem because you are using MDY date format in date conversion which supports only from year 1940 to 2039.
The date you are storing or converting is in ISO format whose LOVAL is 01-01-0001 , you need to either change the logic of the program to use *ISO conversion or store dates in MDY format only.

I get RNX0114 on: WRITE C1CTL (the subfile control record)
"The year portion of a Date or Timestamp value is not in the correct range (C G D F)."
This confuses me because a dump shows the control record date field as:
C1DDATFR DATE(10) '0001-01-01'
DDS has C1DDATFR defined as "Data type L"
We're seriously past that born-on date, but I thought "*LOVAL" would be ok ?
