No big deal, Mark - we're all learning this stuff. We don't have the PTFs installed, either - will probably have them in January.

But 9.0.1 of RDi is in the wild, and that help -- assuming a person can get to it!! -- is the easiest place to find all the free-form stuff in one place - better than the updated PDF. Of course, that PDF is fine if one doesn't have the latest RDi.

Cheers
Vern

Hi, Vern:

Obviously I do not have a system with those PTFs on for the new "Free
form" stuff yet ... so I was just making a "best guess" based on reading
the manuals, etc. :-\

All the best,

Hi Mark

Even that is not correct - there has to be a "name" after the dcl-ds -
and we can use *N as a placeholder, just at we can with many CL commands.

All this is clearly stated - although not necessarily easily located -
in the updated rpg reference and in the help that comes with RDi 9.0.1

I feel like there's a fair quantity to learn about this new, improved
syntax - I look forward to it.

Cheers and Happy Holidays

Hi, Darren:

I see now that my "guess" was incorrect. The correct syntax would
appear to be:

dcl-ds PSDS;
Pgm *PROC;
. . .

All the best,

Pgm char(10) pos(*PROC);

Hi, Darren:

Perhaps try something like:

Pgm char(10) pos(*PROC);

Let us know if that works ...

When I'm converting my program status data structure from fixed format to
free form, I expect this to work, but it doesn't. Is there a syntax
issue,
or do I just have to specify the position for these keywords?

dcl-ds PSDS;
Pgm char(10) *PROC;
RNF3308: Keyword name is not valid; the keyword is ignored.
WSID char(10) pos(244);
User char(10) pos(254);
end-ds;

Work-around is:

dcl-ds PSDS;
Pgm char(10) pos(1);
WSID char(10) pos(244);
User char(10) pos(254);
end-ds;
