Just to be accurate and on solid footing here, WDSc was not free. It was
included with the WebSphere Development Studio (WDS) license purchased
prior to 6.1--IIRC. I seriously doubt IBM would go after anyone who
installed it never having owned it when it was part of WDS. But it's cost
was bundled with the cost of everything else you bought for development.
Legally, it never was free. As to the cost of an RDi seat, I believe the
option to upgrade a ADTS (PDM, SEU, etc.) license is still available. It's
far from free, but that last one we did provided significant savings.
