gvim works on Linux. So do RPGNextGen and RDi.

Someone else in the thread mentioned the NP++ relative: http://itsfoss.com/scite-the-notepad-for-linux/

Buck,

Did you already consider to use Notepad++? It is free and you can add your own syntax highlightning for RPG!

What might 'best' mean for you? You specifically mention RPG/400 - that is old, old, old, so I am guessing that 'free' ranks quite highly as far as 'best' goes.

When I used to maintain RPG/400 code (because ILE RPG wasn't invented
yet!) I used and loved Code/400. Your company probably has a copy of Websphere Development Studio Client 6 or 7. Code/400 is on those CDs.

Today, if I have to work on old RPG source, I convert that source to ILE RPG format. I like and use Rational Developer for i http://www-03.ibm.com/software/products/en/dev-ibm-i

Have you any idea about rpgnextgen?

It hasn't been updated in a while but it's still worlds better than Notepad.
