Actually, what I should have said is that I don't think there is.
What I did was to turn off "column separators" in my session emulator
sessions.

You were right the first time - there isn't any way within the 5250
protocol. If your client software can do something with it, that's a
separate matter.

The issue is that the bits all mean something. If bit 4 is on and bit
5 is off, there WILL be column separators (as far as 5250 is
concerned). Column separators are not even subject to nondisplay (try
x'37')!

You can't mix and match attributes (successfully) willy-nilly. Your
selections are limited by the available bit combinations.
