I found my self uselessly spinning the
wheel on my mouse expecting it to page up/down. Or pressing "B",
expecting it to jump to the first record whose Name starts with a "B".

Good point. It would improve the user experience if event listeners were
added via JavaScript to implement that type of behavior.
