It's nice that IBM has added these facilities into SQL. But the toolchains
for XML and JSON in the open source canon are both about 20 years older
than the IBM i SQL implementations of same, so you have to recognize that
they have something to say in our niche.


I would add that using third-party bolt-ons or convoluted work arounds in

QSHELL/Python etc. because you don't want to learn how to use the tools
provided by the platform is also silly

There is that. I have done my share of silliness in that regard, Tim, only
to find there was an easier way to do things already present on the
platform.

BUT ... (and as Peewee Herman said, "Everyone's got a big 'but'") it's
absolutely essential to the survival of the platform that the best and
brightest in our community learn to incorporate the New Stuff when it's
most appropriate to do so.
