John -

I agree with you that a lot of people don't realise that the 400/iSeries is the
web server as the website is looking like a "proper"
website i.e. nothing different for the multitude of others out there.

Fast access to what is purportedly the most robust database is an important
feature.

Similarly testing from the web browser input through to the database update
path is something that we consider just as important.

I believe that our products offer the only thorough "need to end" testing
solution for web applications using the AS/400 as a
server.

Why be "jack of all trades and master of none, when if you have an iSeries 400
have the market leader.

<rant>

It really p*$$es me off when folks are in any way apologetic about the
AS/400 as a web server!

There are a LOT more websites powered by AS/400 than most folks know! My
little company has done a bunch ( over 50 ) in the metro New York City area
ourselves ...

Here's two publicly visible AS/400-powered websites that show what the
AS/400 is capable of:

We did ScoreBook ourselves on a shoestring budget ... it applies data
processing concepts to a "fun" thing ... amateur sports & player statistics
(baseball, at this time) ... the dot-com that owns it looks like it will
turn a profit this year (from revenue generated by the sports statistics
packages that it sells).

MOST AS/400 WEB SITES ARE NOT PUBLICLY VISIBLE. They are doing business to
business applications that are radically changing the way that our
customers do business! You can't see them unless you have a sign-on!!!

5 years ago, I said that "the server that runs the web site will run the
company" ... that is proving true today. Being able to provide access to
corporate databases & extending applications out to vendors and customers
has huge payoffs. It is 100 times better to do this directly on the AS/400
that has the data than to use some middleware to extract it.

Sorry for the interruption ...
