Oh surprise me!  The longer I stay in this business the more that happens.
It is not because I'm getting better but rather that the truly good people
from Rochester (and IBM in general) are leaving due to retirement or IBM
Management practices.  Thus we are left with the "new hires" who are in
general Unix or PC weenies with no understanding of the philosopy and
behaviour of XPF and SLIC and simply continue to create the crap their
professors' said was state of the art.  IBM used to beat them into shape
after they were hired but that no longer happens.

The number of problems I find with the system that are simply due to
junior level programming errors is increasing.  For example; APIs that
handle literals but break when passed variables, APIs that work when a
structure is populated with default values for two of the fields but
breaks as soon as they are not default, API offsets that are calculated
incorrectly, API structures with a format (e.g., FMTX0100) where a field
is increased from 10 bytes to 128 bytes without a format change thus
breaking any existing code, I could go on and on and on ...  These
problems are mostly a result of shoddy unit test which is a junior
programmer trait -- especially amongst junior programmer's who have been
in the industry for a number of years :)  Is that 10 years experience you
have or the same year repeated 10 times?  But I digress -- as is my wont.

I'm not sure SHWSTDOUT does do anything they said was impossible.  It
doesn't really let you control STDOUT, it just shows it to you after a
program that has written to stdout has completed and the Session Manager
has disappeared which seemed to be what Peter was really after.
