for field Varying:

Eval MyVarying = 'Hello'
Eval MyVarying = MyVaring + ' There '
Eval MyVarying = MyVaring + %Trim(' Midrange! ')

At this point MyVarying would contain 'Hello There Midrange!'
and %Len(MyVarying) would be 21.

Now, you should be able to do anything with the MyVarying field you want.
Yes, you can move it to a fixed length String field. You could pass it, etc...
It now depends on what you want to do with it.

Notice, I did NOT have to say:
Eval MyVaring = %Trim(MyVarying) + ' There '

By the fact that it is Varying, it's length is it's data.

Buck,

I'm using the varying field to build my HTML output. Should I be starting
the data in byte 3 of that field or move the varying field to a fixed
length field after the data is built?

Thanks,

Mark
