I didn't "weigh" your graphics, but poor download time is usually due to
poorly constructed or compressed graphics.

web pages with graphics typically take as long as 15 to 30 seconds to fully
download from a 56k modem, so you may not get any noticable performance
increase without getting rid of some of them.   How long does it take to
display for you?

What can be causing this  poor performance?  I have just two pieces of JS
code that reads from another server, one for the counter and one for the
news at the right side of the page.  I do not know if that is causing such

deterioration at page-load time.
