Believe me, I would move if I could--this machine is a V4R5 system on the old 170--we are ordering a new i5 520 rack mounted system--but that process is taking a while. The strange thing is, it is happening more and more. First is was one time, then about a month later, then a week later, now every 3 or so days. In all but one instance, however, it has occurred during the evening hours when traffic is at its lowest. Again, Apache can't come soon enough for me--but its out of my hands for now. -Bob Cozzi www.RPGxTools.com RPG xTools - Enjoy programming again. -----Original Message----- From: web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Haas, Matt Sent: Thursday, September 08, 2005 7:49 AM To: Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: [WEB400] Socket Accept() error occurred in QHTTP (classic server) Bob, When traffic grew to a certain level, we were seeing server crashes under the Original server as well. I'm pretty sure this is the message we were seeing but I'm not 100% sure since it's been a couple of years. The way I solved it was to move to the Apache based server. In the couple of years I've been using it, it has yet to crash or suffer any of the intermittent performance problems we used to get with the Original server. If you're on V5R1 or newer, it's time to convert over (just don't use the Migration Wizard to do it). In all cases, the common fact is that the main server job is generating the following error over and over to the point where the Joblog wraps. "A socket Accept() error occurred. An error timer was started. Refer to the server error log for additional information. Errno: -Too many open files for this process.-" Any idea what I need to be looking at? I suppose it could actually be an intermittent hardware problem. -Bob Cozzi www.RPGxTools.com RPG xTools - Enjoy programming again.
