We're big fans of ProGen Plus around here as well. We passed on
WebSmart for the time being because of their intermediate language.
We also wanted something that would help ease the transition into
Java/JSP for RPG developers, and WebSmart JSE didn't write Java code
that you could learn much from. That being said, if you want a code
generator that will write apps that work, it's a good tool. And the
fact that it will do both RPG/CGI and Java servlets is a big plus. If
you start out going the CGI route, then decide to do the WebSphere
thing, I believe you can get the JSE module and regenerate your apps
into servlets.

We're evaluating EGL right now. The jury is definitely still out on
that one. It's another intermediate language/4GL situation, but that
intermediate language is definitely "Javaesque." If that proves to be
too big of a pain, we'll take another look at WebSmart JSE just to let
people do quick and dirty CRUD apps. Several of us in my shop are big
fans of using generators to do simple CRUD apps and saving developer
resources for more complex projects.

I do not have WebSmart, but I have used their ProGen Plus product for many
years and couldn't be more pleased with both the product and BCD support.

ProGen Plus has allowed me to become incredibly more productive. Their
support is the best of any company in any industry I have ever dealt with,
bar none.

Not being paid to say this, just one happy customer.
