I'd be more than happy to have PHP running as an Apache module on the native HTTP server like it would on a UNIX system. However, I'm very satisfied -- even impressed -- with how PHP on the i5 has performed for me running as a CGI in PASE.

Great to see new software ported to the i5. However I am not a big fan of leaving production applications in the PASE environment. I'd rather they be ported to "native". I've been burnt by applications that ran in PASE. Some of the PASE api's were not good for performance. What happened is that the software vendor then left the i5/os entirely. But that vendor was IBM and what interest do they have in i5/os?

I am sure that IBM would not have sold the boxes they have if Domino was only supported in PASE. Instead they did it right, ported it to native and sold iSeries boxes to run Domino like hotcakes. And the iSeries kicks butt in the Notesbench tests.

Oh, that product that left i5/os was Tivoli Storage Manager from IBM.
