This would probably be better for security too wouldn't it? PHP is a
script file and it if existed on the PC then it could be altered and/or
viewed and expose the JDBC connection information. The servlet would be
compiled and harder to mess with.

to use Apache Geronimo, you can host java servlets on this that can
connect to your iSeries using JDBC. The JDBC driver is available from
jt400.sourceforge.net.
