I couldn't hope to compare/contrast EGL with Java, .ASP and .NET in a few emails. It'd take a book! If you're familiar with the others and want a taste of EGL, DeveloperWorks http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/products/egl/ has lots of stuff. In particular, check out the EGL assets and EGL Resources links. Take note of the forum link near the bottom, it's pretty active.
