Joe, at al,

Pardon my ignorance about WDSC but I have the following installed on the i5 I use:

5722WDS *COMPATIBLE WDS for iSeries
5722WDS *COMPATIBLE iSeries Tools - Application Development
5722WDS *COMPATIBLE ILE RPG

I also have a bunch of CD/DVDs that say WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries V6.
I assume this is what you are talking about and what I'll have to upgrade to make the trial to work. Any idea on price for a non-trial version of RBDe?

The reason why this piques my interest is I would very much like to get some quick and dirty Web Access to DB2/400 data as a proof of concept for some users. I could use a query tool for a quick and dirty but EGL might be just as fast or faster, more elegant and a better architecture for final production apps.

Thanks everyone,

Dave

Joe,

Thanks much for the info; what I was looking for.

Like the idea of host variables; shows a better tied to what you do in
compiled languages.

Is the Sayles website in your IBM article for which you sent the URL?

I think WDSC is on the i5 I use but in case it isn't or is old, how does
one get EGL? Is it part of the i5/OS or a program product or what?

At V7, EGL is part of something called the Rational Business Developer
extensions (RBDe) and can only be used in conjunction with a Rational Tool
Suite, such as RAD or WDSC.

This will change, but for now you need to get WDSC V7 installed and then go
find the RBDe free trial. It's on the IBM site, but I have no idea where.
Maybe someone else can chime in. If not, and you can't find it, let me know
and I'll do some more digging.

Joe
