Get Fiddler! (www.fiddlertool.com)
Man, I downloaded Fiddler and tried it. I'm very impressed, to say the least. As it relates to compression, I confirmed that the Apache configuration directives:
LoadModule deflate_module /QSYS.LIB/QHTTPSVR.LIB/QZSRCORE.SRVPGM
SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
do indeed establish compression. I confirmed that the LoadModule directive IS REQUIRED.
In one case according to Fidler an 8K response was compressed to a little under 2K. I'm impressed by that too.
Fiddler also confirms that the browser caches JavaScript and other static files so that ZERO bytes are downloaded when a cached file is requested. Great diagnostic tool. Thanks for the find.
Nathan.
