Yep - you interpreted my needs just right.

This way if ActiveX is supported with this object type, we're good to go - otherwise I have the alternative code path.

As I've read about browser determination, the direction seems to go toward functional determination instead - so I like this a lot.

But the whole point of the OP request probably wasn't to target IE
specifically, but to target browsers that support activex. So if FF was
to add activex support then I would imagine the OP would want to use
activex in FF.
