Could you elaborate on the "this kills Java" thing?

I understand that Java likes to sweep the objects in memory at garbage collection time which is why it likes for the memory to be swapped in. Why would this kill java? To my understanding the largest problem with Java on AS/400 is the weak CPU in the machines that our customers buy :)
