It's the way of the world that the more fixpacks Windows has applied
to it, the slower it becomes. Actually, I think that might be true
for patching software in general, but it's particularly noticeable in
Windows. :-)

When my XP was new I think it did the same thing :) and I don't think
that I can say "my XP is slow" sadly enough to make the IT supporter go
from "I'll just reinstall it then" to "oh, poor you, you need a new
laptop with Vista".

I need additional arguments :)
