BINGO!!!  What you suggest is the sort of thing that can be shown to the non-i crowd/CIO to help sway them from the "dark side" to the i which is a BIG uphill battle.

Does Zend have any public PHP "success stories" of PHP on the IBMi?  I know
lots on this forum have had success, but they were already on the IBMi.  I
