I have now made the necessary changes and now, when MAIN is called a second
and subsequent times, the same instance of MAIN is activated. I still have
a great deal to do, but I am making progress.

Although I reserve the right to change my mind, it seems to me that CGIDEV2
is a relatively easy tool to understand (if you also understand activation
groups!) and that response times are quite good (about 0.2 secs on a 170
running V5R1 and original HTTP server with a database of about 1.25million
records), although, on the same box, response times would be under 0.05 sec
in good old 5250 mode. When I have finished the changes, I will move the
result to a faster V5R3 box with much more main memory and use Apache and
see what response times I get then.

Thanks once again for your help.
