What I have seen is they are similar to other databases except that the initial connection takes a little longer. When you are running natively with the native drivers, DB access (including connections) are much, much faster than other DB's.

In this case, no as/400 at all. SQLServer and Web servers are on
different machines on 100MBit network (next hardware evolution is 1GB).
What are "normal" times for a DB request w/jdbc against the i?
