What are your thoughts on only delivering JSON to the client concerning
the dynamic portion?
Well, JSON formats are more streamlined than HTML and XML, which is nice.
In theory the static HTML+CSS+javascript files that process/render the
JSON would only have to be downloaded once.
I wouldn't count on that being "static". We have a requirement right now to enable teachers to view and maintain grades and scores for all "students" and all "assignments" and all "classes", in a spreadsheet format. Actually, if anyone has any ideas about doing this, I'd appreciate some feedback.
The first two (2) rows need to show "assignments" and "points possible", but the number of columns would grow throughout the term as new assignments are made. The first two (2) columns would be for "student names", and "grade summary".
The first two (2) rows need to remain in fixed position while the student names and scores may scroll vertically underneath. The first two (2) columns need to remain in fixed position while the assignment names and scores scroll horizontally, as the number of assignment columns may exceed screen boundaries.
Anyway, a spreadsheet like this, where the number of "assignment" columns would grow throughout the term, would not be "static". And we have dozens of other applications that are like that.
