I would suggest that converting spool files is not a significant process
task compared to transforming HTML so I would expect it to be faster.
Just to underscore that point - our business development director, who has a knack for HTML, is working with a couple school districts, to come up with a nice looking layout for student report cards, which is a pressing need.
He's using Dreamweaver to facilitate layout. Ctrl+S - to Save. Ctrl+U to upload to the IBM i server. Switches over to the green screen. F9 + Enter to run the CL command to generate the PDF. Switches over to the browser. F5 to reopen the PDF file, for viewing.
He expressed his pleasure a couple times about how faithfully the HTML + CSS layout is rendered in Adobe Acrobat, with margins, colors, boxes, various fonts, etc.
Dreamweaver, TN5250J, Firefox, & Adobe Acrobat combined together, make for an effective developer IDE.
