The script going south all of a sudden wouldn't be related to an SSL
certificate expiring would it?


That is not how the URL is typed in the script. For some reason that is
how the error message formats the URL. If you don't believe me, just
Google "ssl://" and you'll find this is a common error message (though no
pages I found applied to the issue I was having).
