The real new vista (no pun intended!) is the mobile device.
And for that, you're either doing iPhone or Android. Microsoft missed
the boat so badly in this market that it may simply never recover.

I was baffled when I learned that Apple's market capitalization surpassed
Microsoft's; just didn't see it coming. Ten years ago they were struggling to
stay afloat in a market monopolized by Microsoft. They switched to consumer
electronics, mobile computing and content, and the transformation of their
market position is amazing. Android is coming on strong, too. I think
Microsoft saw it coming, but it appears to me that their operations are so much
geared around heavy desktop systems, that they really haven't figured out server
technology. They keep falling back to thick desktop computing under a new
brand; aka Silverlight.

I'm interested in supporting mobile browsers, and one thing that fuels that
interest is that we listened to industry thought leaders about modularizing code
under an MVC model, and we can now see potentially across-the-board reuse of our
server components to support mobile devices in addition to desktop clients.
