The value of the MySQL to DB2 on i bridge was the fact that your data is stored in a solid database back end ... so you end up with maximum compatibility with a enterprise class database (you know, the kind that protects it's integrity by not allowing a tables structure to be changed while it's being used).
Running Mysql or postgress sql in pase gives you nothing of value ... your database isn't protected, it's probably not especially fast, not particularly easy to backup with the rest of your database, and you can't access the databases with your language of choice (RPG, Cobol, etc).
