I'm making some assumptions here, but I guessing it's because he's trying to
use JSF 1.2. If you want to use newer versions of libraries that WebSphere
AS uses, you have to load your libraries first before WAS tries to load it's
libraries. Obviously this doesn't work in all cases, but it works well for
JSF and JPA actually. For JPA you have to run it as a resource local
transaction management, but it works well.
