You crack me up, Henrik! :^) Sorry, I should have clarified that: yes, our
website is served from a Power Systems server running IBM i 6.1. In fact,
we'd be an almost exclusively IBM shop, if they hadn't dropped OS/2. Our
toll system was developed custom in house by IBM as well, but now
maintained by us. In any event, we are an RPG shop, and the previous
version of our website was based on CGIDEV2. We switched to PHP,
ZendServer and ExpressionEngine for our new website (same hardware and
OS), so we'd have a CMS-based solution. The CMS is built on CodeIgniter,
JQuery and MySQL. So I can reasonably say that the CodeIgniter framework
works against MySQL (5.1.50) on ZendServer (5.0.4) and IBM i (6.1). It
should also work against DB2 with an ODBC connection, or it may be
possible to integrate the DB2 connectivity in Zend's PHP toolkit to do the
same.

Our customer account app. is still RPG-based, but we may eventually switch
to PHP -- thus, the need to learn CodeIgniter, PHP toolkit, etc. so we can
integrate with ExpressionEngine, IBM i, etc. I've started learning the
different components in my spare time, but been side-tracked lately by
other projects.

So you have no DB2 and RPG envionment on the server or how do you handle
that ?

We're running our website on ZendServer CE 5.0.4 and EllisLab's
Expression
Engine 2.1.3 (CMS) . The latter is built on the CodeIgniter framework
and
MySQL. It's been working great for us, so I think Jon is right that you
would be well served upgrading to ZendServer. I haven't had much time
to
learn and code with CodeIgniter to this point, but it should run fine
on
IBM i with MySQL or DB2. I believe functions from the Zend framework
(and
possibly the PHP toolkit for IBM i) can be integrated as well. At
least,
I've read something about that online, though I haven't gotten around
to
testing it yet.
