The header looks wrong because there should be an extra blank line after the header and before the <html> tag. However, I don't think that is your problem - maybe you just missed it out in your copy-and-paste. Without that, I would expect an obvious error rather than junk. Have you tried using a converter to see if it really is junk, as opposed to unconverted EBCDIC: http://www.pacsys.com/ebccnv.htm

@Scott

What is your content-type set to? The HTTP server should automatically
translate your data, but only if your content-type is "text" (such as text/html, text/plain, text/xml, etc)

%%MIXED/MIXED%% will work fine for everything except %xx constants. If you have any of those in your data (such as with HTML form data) you should switch to %%EBCDIC/EBCDIC%% or simply EBCDIC.

1. Content Type:
I have the standard content statements.

My logon webpage displays normally. When the submit button is pressed, I see the program executing in RPG. The code is normal. I return the following as my response to the browser.

Content-type: text/html
<html><head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <body> Welcome to Ports of Entry </BODY></HTML>

2. CGIMODE.
I have it as %%MIXED/MIXED%%. I tried %%EBCDIC/EBCDIC%% and got the same results.

@Jon
Your question:
The most obvious question Daryl is why are doing so much hard work?

Answer:
I am developing a utility that I would like to distribute. The problem I have always experienced using "other/third party" software is getting the users to install the other software.

I have considered CGIDEV, PHP and others, but I am always left with the overhead of trying to get "other " software installed so that my software will run. This has left me with the need to keep what I can local. Using the base API's goes a long way to achieving the goal. In this way I reduce the external problems and licensing issues.

The question remains: How do you achieve a simple and single install when distributing software?
